Temperament

The Poitevin is a spirited dog, hardy, active and courageous. Suited well to life as a natural pack hound, he does not make a good family pet. Full of stamina, he will happily hunt all day through harsh undergrowth. With an incredible sense of smell and a strong loud voice, he must be consistently trained to ensure that he does not leave one scent trail in pursuit of another. He thrives on pack companionship and requires a firm leader.
