Dark deer red or black with clearly defined red-brown markings on head.
Dark deer red: may have black hairs lightly interspersed.
Black: red-brown markings on the head (Vieraugl), chest, feet and underside of the tail. A white star on the chest is permitted in either colour.

Throughout its history the Alpine Dachsbracke has been known as an outstanding hunter and gundog; hard working and reliable. Although primarily a hunting dog, it is intelligent and friendly and does well with people, making an excellent companion dog.
