The Azawakh is a quiet breed that is ever vigilant and attentive. Their aptitude for work and love of the hunt is helped by their slim frame which helps them to be so successful when on the hunt and chase. They are strong willed and independent, being affectionate to those they trust but remaining wary around strangers. Early and consistent positive socialisation is essential to try to curb this timidity with strangers.

The Azawakh enjoys life and nothing more than running, chasing down prey for its master and giving affection to people they deem worthy of receiving it. Originally used to hunt by sight and chase antelope and catch birds in flight, this is a breed that is not suitable for everyone.
