White and a mix of white and coloured hairs giving an overall roan colour are also accepted. Fine brown ticking or fawn flecking on a white coat. Small coloured patches are only accepted in small numbers.

The Bourbonnais Pointing Dog is well-balanced and good-natured. On the hunt he displays great intelligence and passion. Though hardy, he can be cautious yet curious and is always co-operative with his master. People orientated, back at home the Bourbonnais Pointing Dog is gentle, kind and affectionate, making an agreeable family companion as well as being an excellent hunt and point dog. He requires firm but gentle and consistent training.
