A beautiful and alert appearance has helped to make the Canaan Dog a well-loved family dog and a versatile working dog. These skills have enabled them to work a wide range of tasks.
Temperament
Naturally suspicious of strangers and do not make immediate friendships which helps to make them good guard and watchdogs, as does their strong devotion to their owners. They are very defensive of their territory and are loyal to their family. Early, sufficient socialisation is paramount and can result in friendliness to familiar people. They are responsive to non-repetitive training and can perform well in obedience, whether it is in competitions or in everyday life situations.

The Canaan Dog is a very natural breed with an inherent desire to protect their territory. Very few other breeds match their loyalty; they are generally a healthy, hardy breed.
