Coat
A short but thick coat, hair on face short and legs very short, a harsh oily outer coat keeps the water out and the soft woolly undercoat keeps the dog warm.

Any colour of brown, sedge or dead grass. White spot on the breast, belly, toes or back of feet can be found.

Average, 10-12 years
They are fantastic family pets as they love children and will be patient with them, which has led to them becoming a first choice pet for many families.

Friendly and intelligent, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a loveable companion and an excellent working and show dog. Easy to train, they will obey you if trained well, if not their propensity to dominance can come to the fore and make life a problem. Consistent, firm training is what the breed will best respond to.
