Markings
White with black patches. Two black patches on either side of the head, covering the ears, surrounding the eyes and stopping at the cheeks. The cheeks are tan, preferably pale. Two tan markings above the eyes. Traces of tan also found on the inner side of the ears.
Lifespan
Average, 12-14 years
They are a beautiful breed that is always a joy to look at. They are blessed with a deep voice. Their reputation as a hunter and as a fine family pet has helped the breed gain many devoted admirers.
Temperament
Gascon Saintongeois Hounds are pack animals and do not do well if left on their own. They are gentle, calm and affectionate in the home, providing a good companion and family pet. They are amenable to commands, though early training and socialisation is essential. They have a melodic howl and an ultra sensitive sense of smell making them very adaptable and competent in all types of hunting.

The beautiful Gascon Saintongeois Hound prefers to live outside as part of the hunt pack; they can however make an ideal companion for both hunters and family. The Gascon Saintongeois Hounds were originally bred for hunting both large and small game.
