The breed can make a good companion although it is not naturally very outgoing and is fairly independent. It is resilient, being able to hunt in all types of terrain, working passionately either alone or as part of a pack. It has a deep and harmonious sound to its bark. Training should be consistent and sensitive. It requires early socialisation.
