Originally bred for protection and companionship, the Mastiff performed superbly and still does today. Its unique appearance and grumpy-looking face have helped it work its way into the hearts of many.
Temperament
A strongly protective dog with a gentle nature towards its owners. Originally used to guard livestock, the dog has adapted to a more peaceful life over the past hundred years. Affectionate with its family but menacing if required to be, this dog makes a great family companion and watch dog. Firm and positive training is vital from an early age to make sure the Neapolitan Mastiff knows that it is not the boss, or you may have a hard time getting this dog to do anything when it is fully grown. Needs to be very well-socialised with people and other animals from early puppyhood.
