Coat
The coat is curly or wavy and forms tufts; it is never smooth or corded. It is elastic, shaggy and dense, and approximately 4-7 cm in length. The topcoat is strong and the undercoat, soft. The eyes and the foreface are free of long hair.
Markings
Grey (in various shades), black, fawn or white. Solid coloured. A white mark on the chest of less than 3cm in diameter, and/or a white line on the toes, are not viewed as faulty.
Lifespan
Average, 12-13 years.
The Pumi is a remarkable multipurpose dog. Among the breed's many talents are herding, hunting, guard dog, watchdog, ratting, agility, dog-dancing and obedience. The intelligent Pumi can also be successfully trained in search and rescue and detection. Cheerful, affectionate and protective of his family, the Pumi is the perfect family companion.

The Pumi is lively, cheerful, affectionate and very protective of his family. He is energetic, alert and very active and always ready for action. Highly intelligent, extremely bold and very watchful, the Pumi is suspicious of strangers and makes a fine watchdog. He is expressive and readily attracts attention. The Pumi has a very keen sense of smell and can be very vocal, barking at the slightest noise. Training is essential from an early age.
