Temperament

The Schipperke is a very protective breed who will back down from no one in an attempt to protect its family and territory, but to the family it is trying to protect, it is nothing but a good, affectionate friend. These dogs are very intelligent and have a tendency to be very wilful; they do, however, respond well to training. They will be friendly to other dogs and animals as long as they are well-socialised from puppyhood.
