Coat
Hair is 2-5cm long, medium coarse, close fitting and dense. Longer on back, neck and tail with the undercoat dense, especially during winter months.
Markings
Black with brown or mahogany markings. Coloured tan markings on limbs
Lifespan
Average 12 - 14 years
Hardy, vigorous, courageous and of great endurance, the Slovakian Hound is a very able scent hound and a superb tracker in all conditions. The Slovakian Hound is also an excellent hunter, hunting only boar, and he has a remarkable sense of direction.
Temperament
The Slovakian Hound has a spirited temperament but is quiet and stable. Hardy, courageous and lively, the Slovakian Hound can follow a scent for hours at a time, and has an incredible sense of direction. Very independent, he hunts alone. Strong-willed, he makes a good guard but is not really suited as a pet. Consistent and firm training is required from an early age.
