Temperament
The Swedish Elkhound is a hunter of elk but has also been used for lynx and bear; he is courageous, strong, energetic, hardy and bold. He is versatile and can perform other duties such as sled dog, army patrol work and herding. The Swedish Elkhound also makes a great companion; he is stoically calm, friendly and gentle, especially with children which is what makes him a good pet. He has a strong guarding instinct and is a good guardian. Dominant with other dogs, he requires firm training and sufficient socialisation from an early age.
