The four varieties have different colours: White and black with tan markings (Bernese Hound), black with tan markings (Jura Hound), blue speckled with black mantle (Lucerne Hound) and white with orange-red mantle (Schwyz Hound) as well as all mixed colours of those.

The breed is a born hunter and is truly happy when allowed to run in the fields, once they have picked up a scent. The Swiss Hound is a beautiful breed with a sensitive nature that has not only made them popular with hunters but also families.

Temperament

The Swiss Hound is a very hardy breed which loves the hunt and has high energy levels and great stamina that allow it to keep going when following a scent. Gentle in the home they bond very strongly with their owners making pleasant companions. They are very independent when on a trail but are sensitive to their master when at home. Consistent and firm training is required, as is socialisation from an early age.
